2) provide free mentorship, particularly to underrepresented pre-medical students and who may not have access to it through our student-run mentorship program.

    Dr. Lily Trinh, MD

    FOUNDER

    Dr. Trinh recently completed a clinical research year at Mass Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School where she worked with a world-renowned thyroid surgeon conducting cutting-edge research. She is currently a Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery resident physician, which is one of the most competitive residency specialties to match into. She served on her School of Medicine’s Admissions Committee for 4 years where she reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and provided evaluations to the decision committee about the applicants. Dr. Trinh has been an expert editor for over 5 years, developed an online course teaching hundreds of students how to craft a standout personal statement, and has a strong track record of getting her students success!

    Dr. Jason Simon, MD

    Dr. Simon is a resident physician in Internal Medicine with a unique perspective, having successfully navigated the residency match process. He recently completed a pre-residency fellowship in Movement and Memory at the Medical College of Georgia working primarily with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. He has experience with the fellowship selection process having reviewed applications and conducted interviews on the panel. He is active in mentorship and has worked closely with medical students and IMGs, revising personal statements and conducting mock interviews. He believes that behind each candidate there is an amazing story and finds great satisfaction in helping them tell it in a confident and compelling manner.

    Dr. Harleen Saini, MD

    Harleen is currently an anesthesiology resident in Boston. She initially joined Med Mentors as a mentor to pre-medical students and continued to be actively involved with similar mentorship during medical school. Additionally, she served on her medical school’s admissions committee where she conducted interviews, participated in admission discussions, and was a resource for applicants.  Further, during her preliminary year in general surgery, she was involved with mentoring medical students who were looking to apply to general surgery versus anesthesiology. Harleen is passionate about medical education and furthering mentorship in medicine. With her extensive mentorship and teaching experience over the years, she is committed to guiding applicants to help them achieve their goals and shine during the application cycle.

    Dr. Anna Sutherland, MD

    Dr. Sutherland is a current dermatology resident in Boston, and recently matched into a competitive dermatology fellowship in Mohs surgery at UCSD! Prior to medical school, she worked as a clinical trials coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has conducted interviews for both her medical school and her residency program, and in the process has also reviewed and edited many applications. She received acceptances from multiple medical schools and matched at her top choice for residency. Dr. Sutherland works with applicants to ensure that their unique strengths and personality shine both on paper and during interviews.

    Dr. Gabrielle Schwartzman, MD

    Dr. Schwartzman is a dermatology resident. She was an extremely competitive residency applicant who received and completed 40+ residency interviews for preliminary internal medicine, pediatric, and advanced dermatology positions. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Religious Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Schwartzman completed medical school at George Washington University and graduated with the highest distinction. She has served as a professional academic tutor due to her strong writing and communication skills and has helped many students excel in school. These skills has also led her to be a published author of 15+ scientific papers. She has extensive experience in mentoring and advising premedical and medical students to help them achieve acceptance into their dream programs!

    Dr. Banu Karatas, MD

    Dr. Karatas is a current Transitional Year resident at Emory University and will begin her Dermatology residency at UT Southwestern next year. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in Global Studies and Political Science, before earning her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine.

    Throughout medical school, Dr. Karatas was deeply involved in mentorship, guiding pre-medical and medical students through personal statement development, application preparation, and mock interviews. She also served on her medical school’s admissions committee, where she participated in applicant interviews and admissions discussions.

    Having successfully matched into her top-choice programs, she brings first-hand insight into crafting compelling applications and delivering confident, authentic interviews. Passionate about mentorship, Dr. Karatas looks forward to helping future medical students and residents achieve their goals with clarity and confidence.

    Dr. April Taniguchi, MD

    Dr. April Taniguchi-Lo is an Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery resident physician in New York. With recent success matching into a competitive surgical subspecialty, she can provide valuable advice and suggestions on how to excel during the application and interview process! Dr. Taniguchi-Lo is a passionate advocate for pre-medical and medical students, particularly for first-generation students, and has over 7 years of mentorship experience. She has served on her medical school's admissions committee reviewing applications and conducting interviews which gives her insight on how to stand out as a strong candidate. She will work diligently to help you share your unique story and craft an impressive application!

    Lina Nguyen, MD is a Diagnostic Radiology resident in Southern California and a former highly successful medical school applicant, having received numerous interview invitations and acceptances. She served on her medical school’s admissions committee, where she interviewed applicants, evaluated their performance, and provided direct feedback to the committee on admissions decisions.

    Dr. Latrice Johnson, MD

    Dr. Johnson was an extremely competitive medical school applicant. As a first-generation college graduate and medical student, she has a passion for helping underrepresented students and has successfully guided a multitude of students through the application process. Latrice served as president of her medical school class, which allowed her to work closely with faculty staff and the admissions committee. She was also involved with the Pre-Health Scholars Summer Enrichment Program where she mentored HBCU pre-medical students through the medical school admission process. Dr. Johnson is passionate about helping applicants find their specific niche in the field of medicine to stand out and will use that approach in all of her personal statement edits and mock interviews.

    Future Doctor Nicole Zhao is a MD candidate in her fourth year of medical school. She was selected as an admissions committee member for her program where she interviews applicants and evaluates candidates directly with the committee. Nicole is passionate about mentoring students in their journey to and during medical school. She has advised numerous students in editing personal statements, primary and secondary applications, and mock interviews.     Katherine Du, MD Candidate

    Future Doctor Katherine Due is a medical student in a 5-year Physician Scientist Training Program, after graduating from Yale College. She serves as an admissions committee member for her program, which seeks students interested in training as a physician-scientist. She used to be an Editor-in-Chief for her school’s newspaper, and hopes to use these writing skills to help students craft cohesive med school applications. Katherine is passionate about mentoring students in career, research, and service. She has advised students along their career journey, in navigating research fellowships, and as part of Mindful Exchanges to promote youth mental health globally.

    Sinibaldo Romero, MD/PhD Candidate

    Future Doctor Sinibaldo Romero Arocha (Sini) is a MD/PhD candidate who was an exceptional medical school applicant with numerous interviews and acceptances. He currently attends medical school through a very competitive, fully-funded fellowship. He was on the selection committee of the Mayo Clinic Post-Baccalaureate Program, where he interviewed students and provided his evaluation to the faculty. He has years of experience editing personal statements, primary applications, and secondary applications while being an experienced mock interviewer. Whether you are a first-generation medical school applicant or a nontraditional student, he will tailor his approach to your needs to share your story in the most professional and engaging way possible. Med Mentors’ mission is to build a supportive community of aspiring physicians.

We aim to provide pre-medical students, particularly those from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds, the guidance, confidence, and skills they need to get accepted into medical school and become great physicians.

For our medical students who serve as role models and mentors, we hope they will build leadership and advising skills while giving back to younger generations of future physicians.
